International Processing Fee FAQ

The International Processing Fee is a 2% fee charged when we help you collect payments via alternative payment methods for transactions outside your sign-up country.

What are alternative payment methods?

These are non-card payment methods like Bank Transfers, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Mobile Money etc.

Can my customers pay the international processing fee?

Absolutely! You have the option to charge the international processing fee to your customers. To do this:

  • Login to your dashboard

  • Navigate to Settings

  • Click on Business Preferences

  • Go to Fee Settings

  • Click "Charge my customers" under International Processing Fees.

Can a merchant choose to pay the international processing fees?

Certainly! You can choose to pay the international processing fee. To do this:

  • Login to your dashboard

  • Navigate to Settings

  • Click on Business Preferences

  • Go to Fee Settings

  • Select "Charge me for this" under International processing fees.

Is the international processing fee different from the transaction fee?

Yes, it's different. Transaction fees apply to local transactions done within your sign-up country, while international processing fees apply to transactions conducted outside your sign-up country. These are different fees and are billed separately. You can either cover the fees or pass them on to your customers.

How does this new fee affect refunds?

Following Flutterwave's refund policy, all refunds will be processed within the following timelines:

  • Card refund: 3 - 15 business days

  • Bank transfer: 24 - 48 hours

  • Mobile money: 5 - 7 days

It is important to note that transaction & international processing fees aren't included in the refund schedule.

Will this new fee affect my settlements?

No, the new international processing fee will not alter your settlement cycle. International settlements will continue to be processed to your preferred settlement destination within 5 days per Flutterwave's settlement schedule.

Is there a cap on the international processing fee?

No, there is no cap on the international processing fee. We charge a 2% processing fee on all international transactions from alternate payment methods.
