Onboarding requirements for using Flutterwave in Kenya

For Unregistered Businesses:

  • Website URL or social media page.

  • Residential address with proof of address from the following:

    • Bank or Mobile Money (MoMo) statement.

    • Recent utility bill.

    • Introduction or reference letter from bank or MoMo confirming your address.

    • Voided cheque showing your address.

    • Tenancy agreement indicating your address.

  • Payout details: bank account or MoMo details.

  • Estimated monthly sales.

  • Business profile detailing the nature of business activities

  • Resident permit (only required if nationality is not the same as the home country)

  • Valid means of identification, such as:

    • Kenya National ID.

    • International passport.

    • NTSA Smart Driver's License.

    • Alien Card (for foreigners).

  • KRA PIN and certificate.

Please note: the expiry date of your identification document should not be later than 6 months after the day of submission.

Requirements for a Sole Proprietorship Business:

  • Certificate of registration/E-citizen certificate of registration with QR codes.

  • Business owner and representative ID and proof of address. This may include any of the following documents:

    • Bank/MoMo statement.

    • Recent utility bill.

    • Introduction/reference letter from your Bank/MoMo confirming your address.

    • A voided cheque that shows your address.

    • Tenancy agreement indicating your address.

  • Payout details: corporate or proprietor’s personal bank account details or MoMo details,

  • Operational business address - attach proof of address from the following documents:

    • Bank/MoMo statement.

    • Recent utility bill.

    • Introduction/reference letter from your Bank/MoMo confirming your address.

    • A voided cheque that shows your address.

    • Tenancy agreement indicating your address.

  • Verifiable website URL showing business activities.

  • Estimated monthly sales.

  • Individual Pin Certificate of the Business.

  • Resident permit (only required if nationality is not the same as home country).

  • Valid means of identification (clear and legible):

    • Kenya National ID.

    • International passport.

    • NTSA Smart Driver's License.

    • Alien Card (for foreigners).

Please note: The expiry date of your identification document should not be earlier than 6 months from the submission date.

Requirements for a Limited Liability Company:

  • Original Certificate of Incorporation (with QR codes for E-citizen Certificate).

  • Memorandum of Incorporation.

  • CR12 (not older than 90 days).

  • Memorandum and Articles of Association (MemArt).

  • IDs and proof of address for business representatives, directors, and shareholders. This could be any of the following:

    • Bank/MoMo statement.

    • Recent utility bill.

    • Intro/reference letter from individual's bank/MoMo confirming individual and address.

    • A voided cheque that shows the address.

    • Tenancy agreement indicating merchant's address.

  • Shareholder structure.

  • Board resolution confirming that approval has been given to open an account with us.

  • Payout details: Corporate Bank account details or MOMO details.

  • Proof of Operational Business Address from  the following:

    • Bank/MoMo statement.

    • Recent utility bill.

    • Intro/reference letter from individual's bank/MoMo confirming individual and address.

    • A voided cheque that shows the address.

    • Tenancy agreement indicating merchant's address.

  • Verifiable website URL showing business activities.

  • Estimated Monthly Sales.

  • KRA Pin Certificate of the Business/Tax Exemption Certificate.

  • Resident permit (only if nationality is different from home country).

  • Valid means of ID (clear and legible)

    • Kenya National ID.

    • International passport.

    • NTSA Smart Driver's License.

    • Alien Card (for foreigners).

Please note: The expiry date of your identity document should not be later than six months from the date of submission.

Requirements for opening an Other Entity account in Kenya

  • Certificate of Incorporation

  • Constitution / Memorandum of Guidance

  • Operating License/Permit

  • Memorandum and Articles of Association (MemArt)

  • Board resolution confirming approval to open an account with us.

  • Payout details: Corporate bank account details or MoMo details.

  • Proof of operational business address from the following:

    • Bank/MoMo statement 

    • Recent utility bill

    • Intro/reference letter from individual's bank/MoMo confirming identity and address

    • Voided cheque showing address

    • Tenancy agreement indicating merchant's address.

  • Verifiable website URL showing business activities.

  • Estimated monthly sales.

  • KRA Pin Certificate of the Business/Tax Exemption Certificate.

  • Resident permit (only required if nationality is not the same as home country).

    • Kenya National ID

What payout (transfer) methods are available to Kenyan merchants?

We currently offer two payout (transfer) methods for Kenyan merchants:

  • Mobile Money (Mpesa & Airtel money): You can choose to receive your payouts directly to your mobile money account. This option provides a convenient and secure way to access your funds on your mobile device. Make sure you have a valid and active mobile money account in Kenya.

  • Bank Account: We also support payouts to your bank account in Kenya. You can provide us with your bank account details, including the bank name and your personal account number. Once your payouts are processed, the funds will be deposited directly into your bank account.

During signup, you will have the opportunity to select your preferred payout method based on your convenience and preference.

What Collection method is available to Kenyan customers?

Kenyan businesses can use the following collection methods: card and MoMo, which includes Mpesa and Airtel Money.

Can foreign nationals open business accounts in Kenya?

Yes, foreign nationals can open business accounts in Kenya. To do so, you must provide the necessary identification documents, work/resident permits or authorizations, a valid Identity document, and meet the other requirements set by the bank.

Can I use a mobile money (MoMo) account instead of a bank account?

Yes, you can use a mobile money (MoMo) account in place of a bank account. To set up your account, select MoMo as your preferred payout method and provide your account details.
