Frequently Asked Questions (Refunds)
Updated 17 months ago
How do refunds work?
The refund process depends on where the payment is at the time.
If your payment was canceled before it is sent to your institution, we would initiate the refund.
If your payment could not be canceled before it is sent to your institution, your institution would have to refund the payment to us before we can initiate the refund.
Your institution refunds the payment to us
For cases where the payment could not be canceled before it arrived at your institution (the status of the payment is "processing" or "successful"), you would have to contact your institution to request a refund. Once your request is approved by your institution, the payment would be refunded back to the sender; in this case, that's us. Please note that this process can take anywhere from a few days to some weeks and is entirely dependent on your institution.
We refund the payment to the source account
As soon as we receive the refund from your institution, we would also initiate a refund from our position back to the source account. This means that the refund would be processed to the account you made the payment from. In some cases, we might contact you to verify the account payment was made to enable us to complete the refund. It takes between 3 - 5 business days for us to verify the source account and complete the refund. We will notify you via email as soon as the refund is on its way to the source account.
Refund completed. What next?
As soon as you receive the email indicating that your refund is on its way to the source account, it would take between 5 - 10 business days for the refund to arrive. The duration it takes to arrive in the source account depends on certain conditions such as the payment method, the currency paid, and the refund processing speed of the bank. Please see below for a breakdown of the timeline per payment method used;
Refunds to Credit or Debit cards
If payment was made using a credit or debit card, the refund will be processed to the card. Card refunds will arrive in the source account between 5 -10 business days from the time we complete the refund.
Refunds to bank accounts
Refunds to bank accounts in Nigeria will arrive in the source account within 24 hours from the time we complete the refund. Refunds to bank accounts outside Nigeria will arrive in the source account between 3 - 5 business days from the time we complete the refund.
How long does it take to process refunds?
Time for us to complete a refund: 3-5 business days Time for the refund to arrive:
Debit/Credit Card: 5-10 business days
Bank Account (Nigeria): Within 24 hours
Bank Account (Other countries): 3-5 business days
We will send you an email once we complete the refund. After that, please wait for the specified duration for the refund to arrive. If you do not receive your refund within the specified duration, please log a dispute, and we will investigate it.
Will I receive the exact amount I paid?
Please note that we will always refund the full amount you paid for a transaction. If you receive a different amount, it might be due to:
Your bank charged a fee after we refunded the full amount. Please contact your bank for assistance.
You made the payment via Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC), and after we refunded the full amount, the exchange rate used by your bank to convert the currency changed. Please contact your bank for assistance.
Dynamic Currency Conversion occurs when the card's local currency is different from the currency in which you have indicated you are paying on Tuition. In these cases, your bank will convert the card's default currency to the currency you have requested to pay on Tuition before releasing the funds. This means that the exchange rate for this conversion is entirely dependent on your bank.
Where will my refund be sent to?
Your refund will be sent to the account you used to make the payment (source account). We may need to contact you to confirm the account from which the payment was made before we can process the refund. It usually takes 3 to 5 business days to verify the source account and complete the refund. We'll send you an email as soon as we start processing the refund.
