There is something special about paydays. Our insight shows that most diasporans chose bi-weekly or month-end periods to send money home. Like clockwork, when their salaries arrive, they remembered home. Was it the notification of funds hitting their account? Or perhaps the satisfaction of being able to support loved ones?
Whatever it was, London led this beautiful moment, sending more love home than any other city.
The People Who Keep Home Alive
Behind every transaction is a story. We spoke to people in Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, and Kenya and the stories moved us:
- 83.2% of recipients were young people (aged 18-34), keeping their dreams alive with support from abroad
- 25.4% were siblings helping siblings
- 23.4% were friends stepping in as family.
- 21.8% were extended families staying connected despite the miles between them.
What Love Looked Like in Numbers
Some sent weekly (11.4%), others monthly (26%), and many whenever they could (32%). But here is what touched us most: 46.5% of receivers said they felt “extremely connected” to their loved ones through these transfers. It was never just about the money, it was about presence, about saying “I’m here” even from thousands of miles away.
