When Flutterwave started, it was driven by a simple but urgent belief. The way money moved across Africa did not match the ambition of the people building here.
Payments failed too often. Settlement took too long. Businesses that wanted to scale across borders had to rebuild their financial infrastructure market by market. Too much energy was spent navigating systems that were not designed for growth.
We decided to change that.
We started by connecting what was fragmented. We built the rails that allowed businesses to move money across Africa with confidence. Companies like Uber, Netflix, Microsoft, Airpeace, Piggyvest, and The Delborough could operate here more easily. African businesses could grow beyond their immediate markets without rebuilding everything from scratch.
Over time, those rails became foundational. We have processed more than 1 billion transactions and moved over $40 billion in value, supporting more than 2 million businesses across a network that connects Africa to the world.
We earned our place by building through complexity, understanding each market deeply, and pushing the limits of existing systems. We became one of the most licensed non-banking financial companies on the continent.
But even as we scaled, there was always a boundary. We were building on top of the system, not from within it.
Stepping Into the Core
That boundary shaped what we could do. It defined how fast funds could settle, how products could be built, and how much control we had over the experience we delivered.
With this banking licence in Nigeria, we are stepping into the core of the system. From enabling transactions to managing them end to end. From relying on external infrastructure to building with control over how money moves, settles, and is accessed.
This changes everything. Settlement becomes faster. Experiences become more seamless. The system becomes more responsive to the businesses that depend on it.
Most importantly, we can now build with certainty. Control over our infrastructure. Control over how products are designed and delivered. Control over the reliability and speed our users experience every day. Control over our destiny.
And with that control comes cohesion. What was once fragmented begins to come together. Accounts. Payments. Payouts. Capital. All within one system. This is where everything connects.
Building One Financial Platform for Every Nigerian and Every Business
For everyday users, SendApp is evolving into a full consumer financial companion . Over 1 million people already use SendApp to send money across borders. Now they will access a complete banking experience without switching apps or starting over. Send and receive money instantly, get an account number, pay businesses seamlessly, use Tap to Pay (coming soon), and manage wallets and balances in one place. Everything they need for everyday banking will be provided in the app they already use.
For small businesses, we are building solutions around how Nigerian businesses actually operate. Over 2 million businesses use Flutterwave to accept payments. Now businesses in Nigeria can run their entire financial operation from one platform. Open a business account, accept payments locally and globally, manage payouts and vendor payments, run payroll and mass disbursements, and access multi currency capabilities. From solo founders to fast growing companies, this is the banking platform Nigerian businesses have been waiting for.
For large organisations, we are delivering enterprise solutions built for scale. Manage large scale payment collections, automate payouts across teams and vendors, handle treasury and liquidity across multiple accounts, and integrate financial operations directly into internal systems via API. Built for organisations that demand precision and reliability.
For developers, we are opening our infrastructure through APIs. Builders can interact directly with our infrastructure to create financial products on the same platform that powers millions of transactions every day. Instantly create bank accounts for customers at scale, issue virtual accounts, move money through APIs, and build new financial products on Flutterwave infrastructure.
For platforms and marketplaces, our solution provides the tools to build seamless financial experiences without building the infrastructure themselves. Create accounts for sellers and vendors, automate revenue splits and payouts, handle multi party payments cleanly, and offer financial services directly within your platform. This is built for companies that cannot afford downtime, delays, or fragmented systems.
Across all of this, we are going beyond moving money. We are building smart financial tools that help businesses grow. Working capital loans, merchant financing, and short term credit powered by real transaction data. No paper applications. No opaque processes. Alongside this, treasury and savings tools to manage balances across wallets and access investment and yield products as they launch.
Raising the Standard
Operating at this level requires a higher standard. Stronger governance. Deeper oversight. More rigorous compliance.
At Flutterwave, this has always been part of how we build. As we scaled, we invested in governance, due diligence, and monitoring systems designed to meet global expectations. We are already PCI DSS Level 1 certified, Soc 1 and Soc 2 compliant and enable enterprise grade fraud protection. Now, we are taking that further.
Risk and compliance are embedded into how we build, not added after. We use real time monitoring, advanced fraud detection, and predictive analytics to identify issues early and strengthen the reliability of our platform.
We work closely with regulators across our markets, recognising that strong frameworks enable sustainable innovation. As we expand into accounts, embedded financial services, and new forms of settlement, we are strengthening our systems to meet full bank grade standards.
Because at this level, trust must be earned continuously.
The Beginning of a New Phase
This is not the end of the journey. It is the start of a new phase. We have spent the last decade transforming how payments work across Africa. Now we are focused on something bigger. How banking itself evolves. Nigeria remains at the center of that work. It is where we started, and it continues to shape how we build and scale.
The opportunity ahead is clear. To make settlement faster. To give businesses more control. To unlock new financial capabilities within a single platform. To build systems that reflect the ambition of the people who use them. We have seen what is possible when payments improve. Now we are building toward what becomes possible when banking does too. And we are just getting started.
