Kigali Farmers And Artisans Market is an Impact Entrepreneurship programme which was created to bring together farmers and artisans operating in Rwanda, as well as other African countries, intending to bridge the gap between producers and consumers. They serve as an avenue where local farmers and artisans interact to sell their fresh farm produce, art and craft pieces while also maximising their reach to the community. They have been focusing on working with home industries and MSMEs (Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises) and were the first and one of the most consistent markets of its kind in Rwanda having been in operation since June 2017. Their outdoor market also features food and drinks, kids play, and networking, among others. The event has been held at different locations since its inception.

The Kigali Farmers and Artisans Market provides a direct connection to farms, nurseries, bakeries, meat and seafood providers, cheese makers, speciality food producers, crafters and artisans. They also operate a market that contributes to the success of local artisans, food growers and producers and creates vibrant community gatherings.

With COVID-19 lockdown initiated early in Rwanda, and later in Kenya, they have temporarily ceased having markets till further notice. However, this has not stopped them from continuing to work with vendors from Rwanda and Africa while still practising social distancing.

Kigali Farmers and Artisan Market made new changes that substituted their vibrant physical markets with their online presence, as they looked forward to getting back to their physical markets.

With Flutterwave powering their payments, The Kigali Farmers and Artisan Market have smoothly transitioned to an online store providing a means for various customers to purchase their preferred market items from. This has also provided a convenient, reliable and safe means for individuals to purchase from their favourite vendors in the market.

In addition to allowing the retailers to provide their goods to existing customers by making shopping easier and convenient for them, an online store has allowed The Kigali Farmers and Artisan Market find totally new audiences — ones that may never enter the physical locations used for their markets.
